Functional training is suitable for professional and
amateur athletes and people who want to enhance their fitness.

What is functional training?

The principle of functional training sets it apart from normal sports training as it involves movement patterns that mirror the activities you do in daily life, such as squatting, lunging, pushing, pulling, and twisting. Functional training exercises mimic the multi-joint, multi-muscle movements your body needs to make while executing daily tasks.  They strengthen movements and movement patterns, not isolated muscles.
Functional training exercises are designed to improve your balance, stability, concentration, strength and flexibility and are especially important in helping to decrease your risk of muscle and joint injuries. This is why functional training is an important part of sports injury management. It also provides a well structured component to any sports injury rehabilitation.

For the sportsperson or athlete functional training complements your individualised sports training programme.

A lot of the time during functional training you won’t need equipment or weights. Many of the exercises require you to use only your body weight. When you do use equipment it will generally include items such as stability balls,  medicine balls, kettle bells, tapes, ladders, dumb bells, swing sticks, wobble boards, resistance bands and boxing equipment etc. The equipment along with the specific exercises provide a wide array of exercises which will stimulate all the muscles of the body.
