Remedial Massage therapy is the hands on manipulation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and joints and can be used to alleviate both acute and chronic conditions.  We work with a wide variety of patients, of all ages, in the treatment of illness, injury rehabilitation, disability and well-being.

Remedial Massage therapy in a therapeutic clinical setting can accentuate the effects of physiotherapy as well as help promote recovery.

The difference between a Remedial Massage and a Relaxation Massage?
Whilst a relaxation massage helps de-stress and loosen up your body and is great for those who feel like treating themselves to some TLC, a remedial massage is geared for those who have particular muscle tension or chronic pain. It can be an all over general massage where the therapist works you head to toe finding and releasing tension as they go, or it can be a very targeted session focusing on a specific area.

We will assess where you need treatment and what may be causing your pain or discomfort to see exactly which muscles are giving you trouble and will tailor a treatment plan to suit.

The treatment itself generally involves deep tissue work and can be inclusive of other skills and techniques, such as myofascial release and trigger point therapy (see below). Depending on the nature of your pain the best techniques will be applied to relieve your presenting condition..

Deep-tissue massage is a specific type of massage therapy that concentrates on the deep layers of muscle and fascia in the body. By using deep finger pressure and slow, firm strokes, deep tissue massage is used to treat a variety of physical ailments.

Myofascial release massage therapy typically involves dynamic and very slow stretching and tension on the tissues with an aim to influence the fascia fabric which surrounds muscles. The focus here is on encouraging the smooth sliding of muscles and the fascia so that restrictions are reduced.

Trigger Point Therapy involves putting point pressure directly on myofascial trigger points. The pressure is typically applied directly to the trigger point using thumb or supported fingers.

Therapeutic Remedial Massage & Preventative Care

If you are experiencing muscle tightness from recurring physical exercise, recurring strain from any repetitive activity at work or even sitting at your desk for long hours, therapeutic massage can help alleviate symptoms of pain and strain on your body.
Massage, applied skillfully, is the most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal system.
A therapeutic remedial massage can help reduce stress, and alleviate symptoms of muscle tightness or fatigue. It improves circulation and stretches the ligaments and tendons, keeping them supple and functional.

A therapeutic remedial massage combines specific techniques to stretch and lengthen connective tissues and muscles, bringing wellness, a sense of relaxation and mobility.

Neck and shoulder pain as well as lower back pain are very common ailments and in most cases, if no other underlying medical reason is the explanation, remedial massage can help.
